Asked Questions

What types of projects does Vivaret take on?

We accept a limited number of bespoke commissions each year, primarily custom CLT timber homes, wellness suites such as our Avantoa sauna-plunge pavilions, and sensitive restorations of historic wooden buildings. All are one-of-one creations tailored to site, climate, and your lifestyle.

Do you work outside Finland?

Yes. While our atelier and workshop are in Finland, we design globally and ship prefabricated timber components worldwide. Our integrated team manages permits, logistics, and on-site assembly with local partners to ensure the same quality abroad.

What is CLT, and why do you use it?

CLT is a high-performance engineered material that enables the construction of complex load-bearing structures with great precision, while offering unique environmental and architectural advantages. It allows long spans, precise prefabrication, and a warm, natural interior finish—perfect for sustainable, high-performance homes.

What makes your “no-handover” process different?

Architecture, engineering, craft, and project management live under one roof. Designers and Compagnon-trained carpenters iterate shared 3-D models until every joint is resolved. When construction starts, components fit seamlessly, saving months and eliminating costly miscommunication.

How is Vivaret’s craftsmanship unique?

Our build team follows the centuries-old discipline of France’s Compagnons du Devoir, blending guild-level joinery with Finnish precision milling. Each beam is hand-finished, locally sourced, and assembled with millimetre accuracy, delivering understated elegance built to last generations.

How quickly can Vivaret complete a full home if I’m on a tight timeline?

Thanks to our integrated design-build workflow and off-site prefabrication, a ground-up project can be delivered surprisingly fast without compromising craftsmanship. One recent commission moved from first sketch to move-in within 11 months, a finely detailed timber residence now enjoyed by a very happy family. While each site and scope differ, this example shows how our seamless process can compress schedules while preserving the meticulous quality that defines Vivaret.

Why does Vivaret fabricate most of each structure in its workshop instead of on the building site?

Independent research shows that crafting complex timber elements in the open can cost as much as four times more than producing them in a purpose-built hall. By relocating the bulk of work to our climate-controlled workshop, we lock in several advantages at once. Quality rises dramatically: fixed jigs, precision machinery, and stable humidity allow tighter tolerances and cleaner finishes than any exposed jobsite could hope to achieve. Weather is no longer a project variable, so we work year-round without snow, rain, or wind pushing back deadlines, and the budget you approve remains the budget we deliver because there are no surprise delays or rework. The savings realized off-site flow straight back into your project, funding deeper design iterations, upgraded materials, and detailing that would be infeasible if we had to subsidize inefficiency on the plot. Workshop fabrication also reduces environmental impact by curbing waste and minimizing heavy-vehicle traffic to your land, and it keeps our craftspeople safer and more efficient, working at bench height under ideal lighting. Taken together, these factors give you a higher-quality home, delivered faster, and with every euro invested where it shows, in the craft, comfort, and longevity of the finished home.
